Joan of Arc

Jeanne d'Arc was a truly fascinating, not to mention courageous, young woman. At the age of 17 she convinced churchmen, courtiers and the uncrowned king of France to give her a small army with which she successfully laid siege to Orleans in May of 1429.

She then enjoyed a series of spectacular military victories. And with Joan at his side, Charles VII was crowned king of France.

In May of 1430, she was captured and sold to the English. After months of imprisonment, she suffered a politically motivated trial, where she was convicted of heresy and sorcery.

On May 30, 1431, Joan was burnt at the stake. She was 19 years old.
